Kazakhstan ratifies international convention on minimum wageThe Senate, the upper house of Kazakhstan's parliament, has ratified the International Labor Organization's Minimum Wage Fixing Convention with Special Reference to Developing Countries (Convention 131), the parliament's press service said on Wednesday.With this final approval, the law is considered adopted by the parliament and will be sent to the head of state for his signature.The ratification will formalize Kazakhstan's existing approaches to determining the minimum wage at an international level and reaffirm the country's commitment to its obligations as a member of the International Labor Organization (ILO).The convention obligates each member state to introduce a minimum wage fixing system covering the whole group of employees whose conditions of employment may be subject to such a system."To this end, the following general principles are established: the implementation of a minimum wage system, the participation of social partnership parties in establishing and reviewing the minimum wage, consideration of economic factors and workers' needs when determining the minimum wage, and a ban on wage discrimination," the notes to the document say.One year after ratifying this convention, Kazakhstan is required to submit a report to the ILO on its implementation.The minimum wage in Kazakhstan currently stands at 85,000 tenge, or twice as much as it was in 2022.
