S.SULAWESI ATTRACTS INVESTMENT AS OCEVA INDONESIA PLANS SEAWEED PROCESSING HUB

The South Sulawesi Provincial Government is actively courting investment in the maritime sector, with a strong focus on seaweed processing. On June 5, 2025, provincial officials met with Oceva Indonesia to discuss the company’s plan to establish a seaweed processing facility in Takalar, a key seaweed-producing region. The project, expected to launch within six months, aims to leverage South Sulawesi’s status as a major seaweed hub, producing around 65% of Indonesia’s national supply. Oceva’s founder, Fahrana Amelia Lubis, emphasized the initiative’s potential to boost local economies and attract foreign investment, with plans to expand to other provinces if successful. Indonesia is a global leader in seaweed production, generating 9.28 million tons in 2022 valued at US$2.6 billion. Despite this, the country faces challenges in maximizing export value and competitiveness of downstream products like carrageenan and agar. The government is addressing these issues through strategies such as market diversification, innovation in cultivation, and zoning for sustainable farming. With rising global demand and strong export growth—US$400 million in 2022—local companies and new investors like Oceva are well-positioned to capitalize on the sector’s momentum.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4481/corporate-affairs/s-sulawesi-lures-investment-as-oceva-indonesia-sets-sights-on-seaweed-processing-hub (ICE GIACARTA)
