Kazakhstan sees 68% drop in livestock diseases over five monthsKazakhstan has reported a sharp decline in livestock illnesses, with cases falling by 68.1% in the first five months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.The ministry noted a 49.1% decrease in animal diseases over the past three years, with a 68.1% decline recorded in the first five months of 2025 alone, driven by reduced outbreaks of brucellosis, rabies, anthrax, and emphysematous carbuncle.As part of a state-backed prevention program, Kazakhstan will procure vaccines this year targeting 22 infectious livestock diseases. Domestic vaccine production currently meets 74.4% of demand, while efforts to localize diagnostic tools are progressing—14 out of 32 required types are already produced domestically, with 12 more under registration.Infrastructure improvements include the construction of 113 veterinary facilities in 2024, with plans to add 353 more clinics, 82 animal burial sites, and 28 slaughterhouses by the end of this year. The government has also invested 3.8 billion tenge in high-performance liquid chromatography equipment, with an additional 7.2 billion tenge earmarked for further laboratory upgrades. (ICE ALMATY)
