AI IN MINING COULD UNLOCK US$308 BILLION POTENTIAL FOR INDONESIA

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is projected to bring an economic boost of up to US$308 billion (Rp5,200 trillion) to the Indonesia's mining industry, according to Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Application Nezar Patria. AI accelerates data analysis and decision-making across the mining cycle — from exploration to mineral distribution — while also automating repetitive tasks, enabling the workforce to focus on innovation and business development. Additionally, AI supports sustainable mining practices by improving waste management, reducing environmental impact, and aiding decarbonization efforts. However, challenges remain, particularly the high energy consumption needed for GPUs, which are essential for AI processes like deep learning. To address this, the government has introduced the 3P strategy (Policy, People, Platform) to strengthen the AI ecosystem. Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison’s CEO Vikram Sinha also emphasized that early AI adoption could significantly boost Indonesia’s GDP growth from 5% to 8%.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4175/investment-and-risk/ai-in-mining-could-unlock-us-308-b-potential-for-indonesia-says-deputy-minister (ICE GIACARTA)
