INDONESIA SETS SIGHTS ON BRICS AND CPTPP MARKETS TO BOOST EXPORTS
The Indonesian government is expanding its export markets by targeting BRICS members and countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), aiming to counter the effects of reciprocal US tariffs. Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that Indonesia's recent moves to join BRICS and apply for CPTPP membership are expected to open new markets, including the UK, Mexico, and Latin America. This strategy complements ongoing efforts to finalize key agreements like the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), with negotiations showing promising progress. At the same time, Indonesia is continuing bilateral trade negotiations with the US, proposing cooperation in five key areas: energy security, market access, deregulation, strategic supply chains, and technology collaboration. The US has responded positively, and technical discussions are set to intensify in the coming weeks. Indonesia, which engaged early with the US after the introduction of Trump's tariffs, is also promoting fair, non-zero-sum trade practices in multilateral forums.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/352897/indonesia-targets-brics-cptpp-nations-for-export-expansionutm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
