The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is accelerating the process of drafting artificial intelligence (AI) regulations in Indonesia. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria shared that the draft is under review and ongoing discussions are taking place with various stakeholders. The government aims to finalize the regulation by the third quarter of 2025, considering global AI developments, such as the rise of agentic and autonomous AI, as well as the readiness of the AI ecosystem in sectors like education, health, finance, and transportation. While details on enforcement remain unclear, the regulation is expected to take the form of a ministerial or government regulation. Komdigi had previously issued a circular letter regarding AI usage, with Minister Meutya Hafid noting that Indonesia was the first in ASEAN to do so.
