Kazakhstan's Mangystau aims to boost fish production to 100,000 tonnes by 2030Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region aims to ramp up its annual commercial fish production from 63,000 to 100,000 tonnes by 2030, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.The region currently has three recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) facilities: Kazakh Osseter, Caspian Riviera, and Natali Company, which specialize in African catfish farming. Together, they produced 63 tonnes of marketable fish in 2024.To meet the 2030 target, the government plans to expand existing farms, set up 20 cage farms, establish one pond farm, and build a new RAS facility dedicated to raising carp, sturgeon, and salmon.One of the key producers, Kazakh Osseter, operates a state-of-the-art RAS farm cultivating beluga, Russian and Siberian sturgeon, stellate sturgeon, and sterlet. The facility can produce 60 tonnes of fish and 1 tonne of caviar annually. Since 2021, the company has produced nearly 7,600 tonnes of sturgeon, according to the ministry. (ICE ALMATY)
