FIRST PHASE OF INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT NEARING COMPLETION
The first phase of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant, a major initiative by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025. This state-of-the-art facility will provide an innovative solution for treating industrial wastewater in Qatar, meeting the growing demands of the industrial sector while adhering to strict environmental standards.Located approximately 2 kilometers southwest of the Doha Industrial Area, the plant will treat wastewater transported by tankers from industrial sites across Doha and beyond. With a total project cost of QR 693 million, the plant will initially handle 10,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, with infrastructure designed to support future industrial expansion.The facility’s advanced technology marks a significant leap in wastewater treatment, showcasing Ashghal’s commitment to sustainable and efficient water management. The project also reflects Ashghal’s dedication to safety and environmental responsibility throughout its development.The Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant received two prestigious safety accolades in 2023: the ‘Distinction’ Award from the British Safety Council and the ‘Gold Award’ from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).These awards highlight the Public Works Authority’s (Ashghal) unwavering commitment to upholding the highest safety standards at the project site.The recognition came after achieving 3.5 million man-hours without any injuries since the project began, reinforcing Ashghal’s dedication to safety and responsible project management.In addition to the prestigious awards, the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant is certified under ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management.These certifications reflect Ashghal’s dedication to maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.Ashghal has prioritised safety by requiring all contractors to submit detailed safety plans, outlining specific standards and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.The authority also actively monitors contractor performance, requiring regular progress reports to ensure compliance with safety protocols.To further promote a strong safety culture, Ashghal has introduced reward programs for companies that consistently adhere to these standards.
