GOVT TO BUY THREE SPOT LNG CARGOES BY MID-APRIL
Bangladesh’s Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) plans to purchase three spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes by mid-April to address rising summer demand. The company has issued tenders for deliveries on April 01-02, April 12-13, and April 14-15. RPGCL may issue additional tenders to keep up with increasing energy needs during the hottest month of the year. The country’s energy demand is expected to rise as temperatures increase. In March, Bangladesh acquired four spot LNG cargoes. The LNG will be delivered to Moheshkhali island for use in two floating storage re-gasification units (FSRUs). Each cargo will be approximately 3.36 million MMBtu. Bangladesh currently imports LNG under long-term contracts with Qatar Energy and OQ Trading, in addition to spot market purchases, but faces an energy crisis due to declining natural gas output. Presently, the country is rationing gas supply to meet a demand exceeding 4,000 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), with current supply around 2,888 mmcfd, including 991 mmcfd from regasified LNG.
