Kazakhstan’s business activity index shows a slight increase in April - National Bank Kazakhstan’s Business Activity Index grew by 0.3 points to 50.6 in April 2024 compared to 50.3 in March, the National Bank of Kazakhstan said in a press release.“The increase in the index was due to an improvement in the services sector,” Rustem Orazalin, director of the bank’s monetary policy department, is quoted as saying.In services and manufacturing sectors, the Business Activity Index in April remained in the growth zone and amounted to 51.5 points and 50.7 points, respectively (versus 50.5 and 51.1 points in March). In the services sector, the index improved mainly due to an increase in new orders. Manufacturing saw an increase in inventory levels and employment levels.In the reporting month, the Business Activities Index in the mining industry dropped to 47.0 (from 49.0 in March). In construction, the index remained in the negative zone despite a slight increase to 48.5 points (against 48.2 in March). There has been a noticeable decline in employment levels in these sectors.The business climate index, which is an average of the current and future business conditions, grew to 16.9 points in April. Current and future business conditions are assessed positively. Optimism about future conditions improved, while the assessment of current business conditions decreased slightly. As a result, the business cycle clock indicator remains in the growth area.
