INDONESIA MOVES TO EXPAND FORESTRY CARBON TRADING
Indonesia is moving quickly to expand forestry carbon trading after issuing Ministerial Regulation P.6/2026, which sets a clearer framework for greenhouse gas offset schemes. Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Indroyono Soesilo emphasized that the regulation strengthens Indonesia’s foundation for carbon trading and highlighted the strategic role of carbon standards agency Verra, whose methodologies are widely adopted by forestry businesses. He also stressed the need to build human-resource capacity and technical systems to produce high-quality credits that meet international standards, boosting global market confidence. The Indonesian Forest Concessionaires Association (APHI) is fast-tracking 16 member projects under Verra’s scheme, reflecting rising interest in voluntary carbon markets. APHI aims to deepen cooperation with Verra in methodology development, workforce training, and integrity-focused projects. Verra’s Senior Director Sinclair Vincent called the regulation a milestone, noting the organization is accelerating verification and issuance of carbon-credit certificates while seeking recognition from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market to strengthen credibility worldwide.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/416132/indonesia-moves-to-expand-forestry-carbon-trading (ICE GIACARTA)
