INDONESIA PUSHES CERAMIC TABLEWARE EXPORTS THROUGH HALAL CERTIFICATION

Indonesia's ceramics industry is positioning itself to enter the global halal market by promoting halal certification for tableware SMEs. The Ministry of Industry, through its Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), recently held a program in Bandung to prepare ceramic producers from Purwakarta, Bandung, Cirebon, and Bogor for certification. Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that halal certification, mandated by Government Regulation No. 42/2024, not only protects consumers but also enhances product value by meeting international standards of safety, hygiene, and quality. This initiative is part of Indonesia’s broader manufacturing transformation toward competitiveness and sustainability. Officials highlighted that halal certification is especially important for tableware products due to their direct contact with food, opening new export opportunities in Muslim-majority countries. Data shows Indonesia’s ceramic tableware exports reached USD 12.68 million in 2025, with strong demand in the U.S., Europe, and China, alongside growing sales in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Brunei. Director General of IKMA Reni Yanita and Director of Chemical, Textile, and Handicraft SMEs Budi Setiawan stressed that certification, combined with local raw materials, artisanal skills, and culturally inspired designs, can boost SME competitiveness. Participating SMEs like Lugino Keramik hope for government support in laboratory testing to ensure compliance, helping the industry modernize and thrive in international markets.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2416651/indonesia-pushes-ceramic-tableware-exports-through-halal-certification (ICE GIACARTA)
